Help me grow!
- I love lots of bright light, but not direct sunlight, and am content to bask in sunny spots shielded by sheer curtains.
- Too little light causes my leaves to lose my innate luster and fall off.
- Water me frequently with lukewarm water in summer as cold water can shock my roots.
- I also appreciate a gentle wipe with a damp cloth on my leaves.
- I thrive in warm humid climates as compared to colder ones and therefore misting me is recommended in every season to keep the humidity up and my leaves happy.
- In the dormant season, watering me once or twice a month is sufficient.
- Contact with my sap may cause irritation and thus is harmful to kids and pets.
FAQs
- How do you keep pests away from us?
Fungus gnats, spider mites and mealybugs are common pests that can be dealt with by hosing down my leaves and treating them with neem oil or other natural pesticides. - How and when to repot and propagate this plant?
Once every two years, it is ideal to repot me specifically during spring or summer into a pot that is at least 2 inches larger in diameter. Cut a few top leaves off at the part of the stem right underneath where my leaves jut out, using sharp scissors. These can be propagated in water and replanted to grow new plants. - Is pruning necessary?
I don’t require a lot of pruning; however, it helps maintain my shape but is not absolutely necessary either. Once I reach the desired height, cut off the top, this helps me to branch out. Pruning in spring or summer is ideal.
